Small quaking bog at the headwaters of Doe Run, Lycoming County, within Loyalsock State Forest. The bog contains spruces, tamaracks, and carnivorous plants on an unstable mat of sphagnum moss. Doe Run emerges from the mat in a series of springs. Similar bogs, usually associated with stream headwaters, are found elsewhere on the broad, low-relief summit of Sullivan Mountain. The Devil's Elbow Natural Area contains several fine examples. |
